Now is your chance to follow suit and let the green notes flow into your business with this social media guide. But remember that just opening numerous social media accounts is not enough. As I always say have a plan, be determined and treat this as a full time business plan. Social media marketing is not a “walk in and receive instant results” platform; patience, perseverance and continuous steady efforts is what makes success stories with an earnest and honest approach.

Here are few ways you can start your social media activities:

Facebook Fan Page/ Profile: With hits more than Google, Facebook is emerging as a social media giant. They also provide a good platform for advertising and getting in touch with your customers and create your community in the long run. With their recent new editions to enter pretty everywhere on the web, facebook is expected to become the platform for consumer behaviors and brand advocacy.

Twitter: This is one platform that allows you to market your company within 180 characters. Easy as it seems it provides immense marketing capabilities.

Company Blog: This is one way small businesses can add great value to their firm. This can be a great way to share knowledge, the company culture with the world. Smart companies are again and again proving to be the ‘employer’ of choice not through their flashy websites anymore, but by the blogs. One key reason, company blogs bring the real story, videos of people fresh and alive. Interaction is the hot button.

Linkedin: I have already spoken on reaching out to your professional network through Linkedin. Make contacts, get in touch with like minded people, find potential employees and even get recognized in your field of work. Linkedin with its virtual networking opportunities is something much beyond your face-to-face networking.

And finally measuring your return on influence from social media, to analyse your progress in the social media space is one thing you should do even before you venture engaging with people online.

There are so many other means to start off with social media, these are the most popular ways of taking off and therefore my sweep-take. My next blog will talk about how small businesses can start off with facebook and its various applications.

There is one most important thing that has to be mentioned time and again, no matter how many social networks you are present in, what matters most is your presence, make yourself felt and do it the right way. Quality always wins over quantity as humans relate with people who respond and connect..slowly winning the social trust.

As I get a reminder to an already accepted invitation to a Leadership Team Meet on Wednesday, nothing was actually going on in my mind as I grabbed a note pad and made my way to the conference room, expecting another routine meeting with the team as it was always done in Google. There were a lot more people in the meeting than I had expected people from the testing, creative and sales team (which I got to know later). With a brief introduction of all those present in the room I realized the number of super intelligent people sharing the same space as me, one a Harvard pass out, another a MIT graduate, Whaoo!! With strategists, marketing gurus and design experts all in the same room, I could not have been more pepped up to be associated with people of such stature. This meeting was anything like the serious work focused huddles Iwas used to in Google, no tasks to be delegated, no deadlines discussed…nothing… it was all fun and play here. Sriram Bharatam, CEO of iridium Interactive starting the meeting stating “we lost half a million last year, but this should not deter our confidence in ourselves. We will begin this year with new perspectives to achieve what we are all standing here for”. This was some start to a meeting; I could feel the transparency between the people in the room as each one discussed their concerns and learning’s from the projects and the company. Taking inputs and collective wisdom from each other one of the team members said “we are so busy working that we have stopped enjoying success, we have stopped smiling!!” This motivated everyone present to shed their stress and have fun while working. This represented the company’s core value that motivates everyone to enjoy their work and not get bogged down. This was impressive.. never can I imagine my manager telling me to chill and work, but this was the culture of iridium Interactive unlike any other conventional companies. Boredom was far away from my thoughts as this fun frolicking meeting just did not give anyone a chance to get bored. Later in the end I got to know that this was my official induction in their company. I for one completely enjoyed this one of a kind induction and would definitely look forward to work with iridium Interactive and be a part of more of their enjoyable meetings.

On the occasion of its tenth birthday, Google has come up with a novel project -Project 10 to the 100. This time it is about doing our bit (wish I could change this “bit” to tera bytes) for the betterment of the society. Google invites people to come up with ideas that can make this world a better place to live in …Most of us are aware of the millions around us who as not as privileged as us and desire to do something for them. We are willing to give something back to the society, but often do not know how to go about it. This project just requires that one brilliant idea that can bring maximum happiness to maximum people for the maximum time..Google will then take over and fund the project, ensure that the idea gets implemented. It will be the coming together of like minded individuals and organizationsin doiing the one thing that ensures happiness-lending a helping hand to the needy.

What would help ?And help most? This contest is all about finding an answer to these question. Google has launched an exclusive website for this campaign from where you can get further details.here goes the link. http://www.project10tothe100.com/.As an organization we at iridium Interactive firmly believe that every citizen has a responsibility to leave to the world more than he takes, and have steadfastly followed this adagage. This is probably an opportunity for us as an individual, as well as on organization to realize that one idea which probably have always believed in.With Googles’ involvements the scale of activities in this project is anybody’s guess. So here is your opportunity to make a difference to the world .Put on your thinking caps and come up with that 10 million dollar IDEA……

Congratulations Google, on this Noble venture ..
