We hope to keep up our inspiration alive to build a Smart Office here at iridium Interactive. Even with all the experience we had of building offices renovating them many times in the past 10 years, little did we realise that there is so much similarity between the Construction industry and the Software industry.

Everything looks perfect when we showcase the BRD because by then 98% of clients are not too sure of what their requirements are it is easy to get a sign off on the BRD, in this case, Specs of our office.

The slight trouble begins at the Wire-frames, rather on completion of Wire Frames which in this case is the marking. All was well till then, now suddenly everyone at Iridium feels we need to have more Free Zones, or an additional Meeting Room (no one thought of it at the BRD/ Specs stage). “This can still be accommodated no problem, we are with you dears “, we say and move on.

We design the homepage and the inside page. Here we get a sample of the Tiles we are going to use, the Decolam color, Fittings to be used etc etc. Strangely they get approved or rather people say “you know it better, take a decision, go ahead, we are with you”.

The big trouble begins then. Having got a sign off on the Wireframes and the designs, we get all the actors/ developers and get the work started. Carpenters have started installing partitions, Tiles are being laid out etc etc, now starts the big trouble . “The tiles seemed good when looked at a single piece” I hear, followed by “The colors looked pleasing then, but may be we need to have some more brightness, so why dont you show us more options? The partition here makes the office a little too formal, lets just break it open and make more free space”.

This is a time to break a few walls, to accommodate new changes to the design, thanks to our imagination – have more free space. I tell them, “Change Request, lets accommodate it after Go Live, in the next phase”, they look at me shockingly and say “Aren’t you supposed to be the experts, you should have thought of all this before, didn’t you know Yellow looks better than Orange and Gym takes priority over Conference or Conference takes priority over TT Board, whatever…”

I look at my team with a shiver knowing what they would say , “Sure, no problem. Another 2 weeks”.

Having taken into account the creative & spontaneous views of Iridium‘s hardworking team, we move ahead.

Follow iridium Interactive on twitter and facebook and stay current with the latest on social media and campaigns.

I have been hearing from times immemorial about the Power of Imagination. I have always heard great men say:

When you soar with the wondrous creative powers of your imagination, you possess a first-class ticket to the life of your dreams

For the past few weeks I have been witnessing the power of imagination (though, I am waiting to see the result ahead). Ok! now adding context to the subject, the renovation work at the office has been moving at a snail’s pace in the last one week – thanks to the creative power of imagination Seeing the open floor, part walls and adventurous entrances, the creative spark in many has been ignited. Support has been pouring from both sides of the brain – the engineers have turned creative and the creative are trying their luck at the engineering. Heated arguments, gentle discussions and interesting debates are a common sight these days at the most happening time of the day – the community lunch hour, on various topics ranging from where the stairs to the top floor need to land, to choice of tinted glass vs clear glass, the usual, decent, formal tiled flooring vs the rugged, crazy, unstructured flooring.

All this happening, while I see our own Ms.P busy taking yet another visitor to the most adventurous spot of the office, the 3 ft entrance to the top floor after a 15 steep stairs, not to forget that she is there with her camera – Ms. P, Miss Photographer?? She is busy explaining this visitor of hers of how the gym is going to look like in the Top Floor. And I am busy thinking, didn’t Mr.R just take his visitor and gave a wonderful description of how the Cafeteria would look once done on the Top Floor. Suddenly that reminded me of Mr.S describing this very same place as a Terrace Conference Hall to one of our clients. I thought to myself, God, what a Powerful sense of Imagination all of them have. They are truly putting what Richard Bach said “To bring anything into your life, imagine that it’s already there.” and they were doing just that.

Now, sitting with my team, we are scratching our heads how to make the same place to be Ms.P’s Gym, Mr.R’s Cafeteria and Mr.S’s Terrace Conference Hall, not to forget the amazing view it would provide to ASCI’s greenery. Love you ASCI for all the greenery you guys put up in your campus. I have been describing to one and all how beautiful this place would look when ASCI’s greenery will also give away some colorful blossoms.

So saying this, seeing the Power of Imagination working in many, for many rather, I think our revised date seems to be 14th March instead of 14th Feb. Don’t worry guys, don’t lose your heart, what if we lost the opportunity of Celebrating Valentines day in our new office, we can celebrate iridium Day which co-incidentally falls on 14th March. Hip Hip Hurray!!!!!!!

May this blog post continue to inspire the Power of Imagination in many more!!!!!!!

How much is too much, we often pondered? Sometimes bridging the gap between the 1st and the 4th floor of an office improves communication so much better. So we set about bridging the gap between the Sales & Marketing and the Delivery Team by consolidating our entire operations on to a Single, Bigger Floor in the 4th floor. This meant a lot of clitter and clatter. Monday turned out to be a day of surprise, we walked into an office sans the door. Surprised , rather Shocked, we were to see our swanky office with almost nothing in it. Surprised with the almost deserted office that we all are used to working in, it is uncannily funny to see people swipe their access cards to a door that does not exist anymore. Victims to this habit being many and the “oops” expression on their faces, it was a sight that was repeated over and over again today, much to their colleagues amusement and roars of laughter that echoed in this defurnitured (coined the term just now ha ha) room.

Everyone at Hyderabad Competence center are excited about the new office space that is getting made on the top floor with an excellent view from the corner block, of the greenery of the Banjara hills. Also the new block is next to our ‘Private Starbucks’ as quoted by one of our US clients. He was so excited to see the pantry that he insisted that most of the meetings and team huddles should be done on the top floor. Thanks to him, this really gave us the thought to integrate both the floors and thanks to Sriram, he pulled a quick one over the weekend to get a nod on this Big Move. Much to the ‘Pleasant surprise’ of most of us when we walked into the office today we found almost every bit on the floor getting moved out over the weekend. What’s more, the entire thing was planned with not a single member’s productivity being disturbed. Desks were moved, Computers shifted, Private draws safely tucked under each desk, and yet not a trace of disturbance, we were amused at the way things were pulled through over the weekend.

Everyone’s pretty excited about the new block and are looking forward for Vinod’s promise of a blast in the New block on the Valentines day, rather night. Watch this column for the exciting happenings at iridium.
