Friendship Day Bash

Just couple of days after the brothers sported their Rakhis, all men and women alike could show off their colourful friendship bands – symbolic of the spirit of pure friendship worldwide wiping out all differences. Since its inception in 1935 in North America, the culture of celebrating friendship has spread across the world – even in the corporate circles.

This was my first friendship day attendance with iridium Interactive – I have been here for just about two months now, so it quite didn’t occur to me what was going on behind the scenes. Somehow everybody looked happier than usual, they looked enthused about something. There was music and hoopla all over.

“It’s just one of those weekend manias,” was the thought. Suddenly I see a huge chart-paper lay around on my neighbouring desk with frisk hands all over it. “Paste it this way,” said one voice which was soon to be added by another, “No paste it the other way around.” Hey, they were preparing this lovely chart-paper that read ‘Happy Friendship Day’. And now it became clear to me what exactly the day was all about, why everybody looked excited.

One of them also very quickly passed fancy masks along. Yes, you could not sneak out without wearing them – or may be you could sneak in wearing them – and work while with our masks on throughout – unusual, but surely evoking sort of a party atmosphere. And oh, you were not allowed to be shy!

At around 5pm we were invited to gather by the desk for getting our bands. The floor was decorated with green and yellow balloons. I saw the desk almost decorated like a little kiosk against that striking chart-paper and was set up with bunches of friendship bands – all in different styles and very neatly arranged in rows. Each band was to be purchased so that we could raise the fund for charity. People were willing to buy as many as possible, they were almost racing to get them.

It looked like a ritual – seeing all our friends bedecking each other’s wrists with the friendship bands. Thereafter we headed to the rooftop for some fun time – breaking the work monotony and let go for some time. It was a meaningful way to enhance the camaraderie as the floor participated in some fun activities.

We had some balloon-racing. The game must be sounding easy but the rules of the games were hard to follow. We created teams of two participants, each team holding balloons with their partners. They had to race between the two ends against the opponents without letting the balloons go or pop out. The finalists were called out after three such huddles. The winners were hilariously honored by presenting them with masks. This was not it. There was a surprise contest. Whoever wore the maximum number of friendship bands was going to be the highlight of the evening. The winner not only was honored from the last year winner, but also knows how to get the max numbers around his wrist. The gala time ended with some refreshments & wowsome photo session.

We need relaxation at times. But it is even better to relax with friends. Let’s begin to value them more.
