Rehabilitation of Tsunami Affected Victims

Rehabilitation of Tsunami Affected VictimsThe Tsunami set off by an earthquake unleashed a trail of death and destruction killing thousands of people. Fisherfolk have been the most affected by the Indian Ocean and Arabian Sea tsunamis of 26 December. They have not only lost many loved ones but also their livelihoods, homes as well as their fishing gear and boats. Many are fearful of returning to the sea and suffer from extreme post-disaster trauma. A couple of months after the tsunami, most of the relief camps have been closed. With this background in mind, a proposal was conceptualized to undertake the ?Training Fisherfolk on Alternative Means of Livelihood through a Scalable & Sustainable mode?. As a part of this initiative Different Training Modules have been made using audio / video / computer based training / transparencies to put back the lives of the fishermen back on the track of rehabilitation and to train the Fisher Folk on improving their basic skills to help them find alternative means of livelihood, thereby leading to increased self-reliance and overall rehabilitation and development.

Rehabilitation of Tsunami Affected VictimsThis initiative was jointly undertaken with MCKS Food for the Hungry. Keeping in mind the similarity of objectives of Causeaneffect and MCKS Foundation’s ?Livelihood Program?. We got associated and started working towards creating the means of ?Alternative Livelihoods? for the Tsunami affected victims. As a part of this initiative, Seven Training modules that make up the entire kit for Training the Tsunami Victims in Alternative Livelihood are being developed jointly. A Team of Volunteers of GMCKS and Causeaneffect are undertaking the Training of these modules to various affected victims. These Training Modules will be primarily developed in Telugu.

The Planning, Monitoring, Production and Execution of the Training Modules would be done with the assistance of iridium Interactive Limited, Hyderabad.
